Ontario School Closures - Email to Managers

March 14, 2020

In light of the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, the University recognizes that there are many questions from staff regarding expectations around work. Managers are required to familiarize themselves with the information available on the Queen’s University’s COVID-19 website

At this time, Queen’s University remains open and will maintain all operations. The expectation is that staff will attend work as usual, where possible. However, managers have the discretion to make alternate work arrangements with staff where operationally feasible.

We anticipate that many of you will receive questions in relation to the two-week closure of Ontario public schools. Updated information is available on the Human Resources website to include developing situations regarding dependent child care.

Staff who are not able to attend the workplace as a result of the obligation to care for a dependent child as a result of the two-week school closures are required to contact their manager to discuss alternate work arrangements. If alternate work arrangements are not possible, staff who are eligible will be granted leave with pay.  At this time, staff are not required to use vacation or lieu time.

We recognize that there is a great deal of concern amongst staff and faculty. We remind you that the Employee and Family Assistance Program is available to staff and faculty and their dependents as a resource and support, and we encourage you to direct staff and faculty to this service.

Thank you for your cooperation. We will be in touch as new information is available.
