Shift Differential

Policy

Employees whose hours of work regularly begin at 4:00 pm or later shall receive a shift premium of .45¢ per hour.

Employees whose hours of work regularly begin at midnight shall receive a shift premium of .50¢ per hour.

Employees required to work on weekends shall receive a premium of .50¢ per hour for all scheduled hours of work on Saturdays and premium of $1.55 per hour for all scheduled hours of work on Sunday.

Procedures

This policy applies to continuing/term and research grant and contract staff and is intended to address work units where twenty-four hour service, or service beyond the normal work day, must be provided on a regular and on-going basis.

Note: Funding of a shift premium is the responsibility of the department head and/or the dean or vice-principal. Premiums are not funded centrally.
