Sector Pension Plan Update

University administrators and employee group representatives participated in two days of mediated discussions on November 28-29, 2015 and reported agreement on some but not all of the main features of a jointly sponsored pension plan for the university sector.

Caroline Davis, Vice-Principal (Finance and Administration), remains cautiously optimistic about the University Pension Project (UPP), noting that Queen’s management representatives present at the mediation session found it to be encouraging, notwithstanding the fact that some significant issues remain unresolved.  The joint COU/OCUFA project team later reported that they were pleased to see so many engaged and dedicated people ready to work toward a finalized plan framework.

A report is expected to be delivered to the government by the end of December, and it is anticipated that discussions will then take place between the government, the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) and the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) regarding next steps, including the need for renewed funding for the next phase of the UPP.
