Tuition Support application system is now open for winter 2015

The tuition support application system is now open for the winter 2015 academic term. The Tuition Support Plan provides financial assistance to the dependant children (under 25) and spouses or partners of eligible Queen’s employees, to help offset the costs of post-secondary tuition fees.

An important change has been made to the Tuition Support Plan beginning this 2015/16 academic year. Payments will be issued directly to the students (the employees’ dependant child or spouse/partner), rather than to employees. This change, combined with recent changes to the Income Tax Act, will mean that Plan payments will no longer be considered a taxable benefit for the employee. Rather, they will be taxable income for the student who, in most cases, will have a lower income and marginal tax rate than the employee, resulting in potential tax savings.

The change will affect all eligible employees in all employee groups, including both faculty and staff.

Eligibility, budget and details of Queen’s Tuition Support Plans are documented in the Collective Agreements for unionized groups and in support plan documentation for non-unionized groups.

The link to the tuition application system is found on the Tuition Support Plan page.
