"Strength in Numbers"

Judy Blue Anderson, Hamilton based artist

 Artist's Biography

I am a Hamilton based artist, born and raised in suburban Toronto. I graduated from Sheridan College with a Diploma in Technical and Scientific Illustration.

A stay in the Arctic in the early 1990's renewed my interest in painting. Upon returning to Ontario, I started to paint more regularly. I started showing and my work evolved and grew from there.

My work has exhibited in over 80 juried, group and solo shows in Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and the Czech Republic. I was a winner in the Hillebrand Wine label competition in 2005.

My work can be found in private and corporate collections in Canada, the US and Europe.

 Artist's Statement

For this piece my direction was Strength in Numbers. Support from others is paramount in survival. Shown here with the cut out girls standing together as one, they are a collective strength. I incorporated trees as representing resilience to all sorts of situations. The eyes are looking to the future.

My work often depicts pattern and repetition and it worked well here for this piece.
