Artist's Statement

The image personifies the personal strength, creativity and resilience of a little girl in the wake of gender-based violence.  The child in the picture had the strength to leave an abusive situation; the woman she becomes has the courage to face her past and to open her heart to all she left behind.  The clothesline represents the link between past and present, hurt and healing, recovery and artistic expression.
