Hailey Newton, Queen's science student

Artist's Biography

My name is Hailey Newton and I am a first year science student at Queen's University, and am hoping to specialize in Life Sciences and go into geriatrics. As well as being a student, I enjoy playing an active volunteer role in the community and being involved in athletics. I participate in several volunteer organizations including Generations where I volunteer at a seniors home, and Kaleidoscope where I act as a mentor for an elementary school student. I enjoy playing variety of sports, such as ultimate frisbee, soccer and basketball. As I move into the next stage of my life, I hope to continue to be actively involved at Queen's and within the community.

Artist's Statement

Around the world, several women must endure tragic events, unjust treatment and inequality. However, it is through the support of the global community and their dedication to achieving equality that women have paved the way to a brighter future for the women of today and tomorrow. My painting illustrates the women of different cultures and backgrounds uniting to pave a global path to equality. Each section represents a different aspect of women, symbolizing success in the depiction of a business-woman, nurture in the flowing fields, beauty in the cherry blossom tree and celebration.
