Artist's Statement

Untouched by impurity despite growing in the mud at the bottom of the lake, the lotus flower steadily grows up through the water in its search for the light and for truth.  It is regarded as a symbol of triumph as it can survive to regerminate for thousands of years. In India it symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. In yoga it is the pose chosen for meditation, that practice of calming the mind to find the inner quiet. The practice of yoga is known as "The safe haven from the scorch of the world". So my painting of the lotus blossoms is to remind me of my resilience and to encourage me to stay true to the path of yoga. No matter what kind of muck and mud comes my way, I am truth aiming for the light.
