Artist's Statement

At the center of each woman’s being is her heart and the experiences she carries. The cross sections of wood are representational of a woman’s being, with the heart at the center and growth rings of the wood reflecting the experiences and challenges a woman has faced. The bark may appear battered and rough on the outside, but there is strength within all layers of the wood. The collective wood cross sections together show the collective strength women who go on to thrive, with the support of their community.
