The Human Rights Initiative Award

The Queen's Human Rights Initiative Award is given annually in recognition of initiatives that have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of equality and human rights at Queen's University.

Nominations for the Queen's Human Rights Initiative Award will be considered on the basis of four criteria:


Meeting 23

Sexual Harassment/Violence in the Workplace

This meeting centered broadly on case law with respect to sexual harassment/violence in the workplace, drawing upon criminal, civil, and human rights case law, as well as labour arbitration.

Statement on March 5th "Liberty Lecture"

Information about the upcoming lecture by University of Toronto psychology professor Jordan Peterson, entitled “The Rising Tide of Compelled Speech in Canada”:

The March 5th lecture was organized by Professor Bruce Pardy (Law), and is the inaugural lecture in the “Piasetzki Liberty Lecture” series, funded by a faculty of law alumnus, Gregory Piasetzki (LLB 1980). The event has been reviewed by the Queen’s Event Assessment Team and has been approved to proceed. Campus Security will ensure appropriate security measures are in place to safeguard event attendees.

Race and Indigeneity in Recent Case Law

This meeting focused on cases related to discrimination in the workplace. In addition, this meeting showcased human rights cases related to race and indigeneity.


Meeting 20

Meeting 20: Gender Identity and Gender Expression in Recent Case Law Discrimination in the Workplace 

This meeting focused on cases related to gender identity and gender expression as well as cases on discrimination in the workplace. Jean Pfleiderer, Human Rights Advisor and Erin Clow, Equity Advisor were our guest speakers at this meeting.
