QICGN: New York Branch

Officially launched in March 2017, the New York node is DDQIC Global Network's second innovation hub. Chaired by Isabel Barrera (Artsci '12) the New York Branch is growing every day. This branch will be able to support DDQIC ventures that intend to expand into major hubs of the United States and across North America. 

Meet the Alumni

Isabel Barrera

Isabel was a member of the very first QICSI cohort (then QSII) in the summer of 2012, and was the very first Arts and Science student to go through the program. Her team won the pitch competition that summer, and she has since gone on to fill technical roles in tech companies in New York such as Rent the Runway and Class Pass.

Jenmy Huynh

Jenmy Huynh (Com '08) recently immigrated to NYC but she is a long time visitor of the Big Apple. She started her career in business analytics and spent numerous years developing national integrated marketing campaigns for Canadian brands which included print, radio, TV and digital touchpoints. She is currently the VP of Volunteers with the Queen's NYC Alumni Branch and happy to connect with anyone interested in moving to NYC. She's also the Project Manager for the Centre of Social Innovation (CSI) in NYC where she works on programming and events for the NYC community.  CSI is a co-working space for organizations and people that want to change the world. Jenmy is more than happy to answer any questions you may have about NYC, marketing or social innovation.

Matthew Parrott

Matt graduated from Queen's with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2014. After graduating, Matt moved to New York City. He is currently an Associate at Apax Partners, a global private equity firm. He joined Apax Partners in 2016 and is on the Consumer Team. Prior to joining Apax Partners, Matt was an Investment Banking Analyst in the Financial Institutions Group at Goldman Sachs, where he worked on M&A and financing transactions.

Andrea Tang

Andrea Tang is a talent strategist and perpetual adventurer currently working at ZX Ventures, a corporate venture capital firm and incubator where she is designing talent processes and systems to help their businesses scale. Previously she was the Director of People Strategy at the award-winning Momofuku Restaurant group and the HR Director of their sister bakery, Milk Bar. Prior her foray into the food world, she held several global roles at Marsh & McLennan Companies. Andrea is passionate about areas of social impact, and was selected as a New York Global Shaper, an initiative of the World Economic Forum tasked with making an impact on the local community.

Andrea holds a Master's degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Queen's University in Canada.

Mike Schmidt

Mike is one of the co-founders of Dovetale, an audience and content intelligence platform using image recognition and machine learning to help brands and agencies like BuzzFeed, L’Oreal and Seatgeek. In 2013 he founded and led Listn.co as CEO through multiple funding rounds and its ultimate multi-million dollar sale to SFX Entertainment in 2014.

Navied Shoushtarian

Navied is a serial entrepreneur having founded and sold Listn.co to Beatport in 2014 and now leading Dovetale.com <https://dovetale.com/> as co-founder and CTO. Dovetale is an audience and content intelligence platform using image recognition and machine learning to help brands and agencies like BuzzFeed, L’Oreal and Talent Resources. Navied has a wide range of experience leading large and small technical teams.

Ben Goharian

Ben Goharian is an Associate for Citadel Global Equities, focusing on the internet and travel/leisure industries. Prior to joining Citadel, he served as an Analyst in the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Investment Banking group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Previously, he served as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at Goldman Sachs, and as a Junior Analyst at OMERS Ventures. Ben received a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Queen's University, graduating in 2014. During his time at Queen's, Ben served as the Chief Executive Officer for the Queen's University Investment Counsel.

Alana Podreciks

Alana is currently heading up McKinsey’s New Ventures Platform, which backs early stage startups in the B2B space. She is also an investor with Wisdom VC,  focusing on the consumer/retail space. Prior to joining McKinsey New Ventures she worked with the CEO of Billabong International and Oaktree Capital on a multi-branded retail turnaround in California and Australia. Afterhours, Alana is an artist who specializes on abstract expressionism and teaches workshops in her New York studio.
