Health Coverage

While visiting Queen's, you and your family must have adequate health insurance. Please consult the table below for the process that applies to you and your family.

I'm a Visitor who does not hold a Work Permit	I'm a Visitor who holds a Work Permit for Queen's University
Visiting for less than 3 weeks Must arrange health insurance in home country. University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is optional. Not eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).	Visiting for less than 3 weeks Must arrange health insurance in home country. University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is optional. Not eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
Visiting for more than 3 weeks must join University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) within 30 days of arrival. Coverage is retroactive to date of arrival, see UHIP contract for details. Not eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).	Visiting for less than 6 months must join University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)within 30 days of arrival. Coverage is retroactive to date of arrival. not eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
	Visiting for 6 months or more must join University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)within 30 days of arrival. eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) 3 months after arrival, apply sooner.

must join University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) within 30 days of arrival. Coverage is retroactive to date of arrival, see UHIP contract for details.

Visiting for less than 6 months

must join University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)within 30 days of arrival. Coverage is retroactive to date of arrival.
not eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

Visiting for 6 months or more

must join University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)within 30 days of arrival.
eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) 3 months after arrival, apply sooner.

The UHIP/OHIP plans do not cover cost of prescription drugs and dental care.
