Kwansei Gakuin University - Cross Cultural College

This summer Queen's University and Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) in Japan (in partnership with Mount Allison University, and the University of Toronto) are offering three joint programs, providing Canadian and Japanese undergraduate students the opportunity to take courses with an emphasis on multiculturalism and international studies, as well as joint seminars and internships where these two groups of students will live, study and work together in both countries.

The programs are:

  1. Asian Studies Summer School and Global Career Seminar, from 7 July to 10 August in Japan
  2. Joint Seminar, from 2 to 30 August (2-17 August in Canada, 18-30 August in Japan)
  3. Global Internship, from 12 to 30 August in Japan

For all Programs:

  • Applicants must have complete two semesters of study at their home university as of 20 June, 2013. Students who are graduating or graduate students are not eligible.
  • Credits awarded by KGU will be recognized by the participating student’s home university as a transfer credit from KGU.
  • Scholarships will be available. Accommodation will be fully subsidized; subject to the availability of funding from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) grant, see ‘Note’ below.).

Only Queen's University students in the Faculty of Arts and Science who are in their 2nd or 3rd-year of an Honours Bachelors degree program are eligible to apply. In particular, arts and social sciences students who have a strong interest in multicultural and comparative studies as applied to Asia and Japan will be particularly keen about this program.
