Arriving at Queen’s

Once at Queen’s there are many ways for you to find out more about academics, Queen’s in general, and Kingston. For more information about your first few days in Canada and Queen’s, visit "Arrival in Canada and at Queen’s".

Academics

The IPO offers an academic orientation session hosted by IPO staff and Arts and Science faculty, for all incoming Arts and Science exchange students. The session will provide information about the many academic programs in the Faculty of Arts and Science and cover course registration. It will also cover the academic culture at Queen's, contacting your professors and the role of teaching assistants in courses. Many students find the pedagogical style of Canadian universities to be a lot different than their previous experience. We strongly encourage all exchange students to come to this session to find out more. Registration is not needed; further details will be sent prior to arrival.

QUIC Welcome and Orientation

The Queen's University International Centre (QUIC) offers a welcome and orientation program for international and exchange students. The program offers social opportunities in Kingston and further afield in Ontario. It also includes information about topics such as health insurance. More Information about their orientation programs is available on the QUIC's Orientation webpage.

NEWTS Orientation

NEWTS is for everyone who is entering their first year at Queen’s, but not their first year in post-secondary education. The NEWTS Orientation Week is a student-run initiative. It addresses the needs of these groups and to ensure their transition to Queen’s is as smooth as possible. The NEWTS Week program fosters a tightly knit community of upper-year students. For more information, visit the NEWTS website.

ASUS Exchange Buddies

The Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS) is the student government for all Arts and Science students at Queen's. ASUS runs an exchange "buddy" program which pairs an incoming exchange student with an upper-year Arts and Science student. After confirming your acceptance to attend Queen's, ASUS will send you an invitation to joining the Exchange Buddies program. ASUS also organises social events to welcome students and give them the opportunity to meet other Arts and Science students.
