NotifyLink Best Practices

ITServices recommendations for configuring both your smartphone and your desktop.

Smartphone Configuration Settings

Install and register NotifyLink on your smart phone (NotifyLink request form)

  • Open NotifyLink and click the Options button
  • Scroll down to Preferences. Once there, select Cleanup Settings:

ITServices recommend that you:

  • enable a Monthly clean up
  • enable Cleanup unread messages
  • enable Cleanup unacknowledged meeting

Options that you should configure for personal preference:

  • Push Settings: (push settings configure the server to send information to your device on a set schedule)
  • Scheduled Push

Weekday: Interval/All Day
Push Frequency: this is up to you. 5 minutes is as short as we recommend due to battery life
Start: set the time of day you would like this to start
Stop: set the time of day you would like this to stop
Weekend: Interval/All Day/Off

BlackBerry Users:

  • To help conserve battery life, we suggest that you adjust your Auto On/Off settings on your device. On the main screen of your BlackBerry, scroll to Options then select Auto On/Off. From there, you can select to enable the Auto On/Off feature and set the time that you would like it to be available. Please see the documentation at http://help.notify.net/TechDocs/device/BBP/UserGuide/NetHelp/ for more help on battery life and best practices.

Palm Treo Users:

Computer Email Configuration Settings:

  • On your computer, we will only support Notifylink if you have configured your email client for IMAP. This will enable your smart phone to have access to all the email on your computer, including mail in separate folders if so desired. To make sure that you are configured for IMAP, please follow the instructions provided here: http://www.queensu.ca/its/email/tutorials.html
