Configure Apple's Mail Client for Mac OS X 10.6.8 using POP
These instructions were written using Apple's Mail Client version 4.5
Instructions
- With Apple's Mail client open
- From the File menu select Add Account...
- The Add Account screen will open
- In the Full Name: box enter your real name
- In the Email Address: field enter your Queen's email address
- Click the Continue button
- The Incoming Mail Server screen will open
- From the Account Type: menu select
POP
- In the Description: box enter a name for your connection
- In the Incoming Mail Server: box enter mail.queensu.ca
- In the User Name: box enter your NetID
- In the Password: box enter your NetID's password
- Click the Continue button
- Ignore the error
- Click the Continue button
- The Incoming Mail Security screen will open
Note If your office is located at Kingston General Hospital (KGH) or Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH): does not support
SSL Encryption and SMTP Authorization.
- Check the box beside Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
- From the Authentication: menu select Password
- Click the Continue button
- The Outgoing Mail Server screen will open
- Fill in Description: Queen's
- In the Outgoing Mail Server: field enter mail.queensu.ca
- Click the Continue button
- The Outgoing Mail Server Encryption and Authentication Screen
- Click the Continue button
- The Account Summary screen will open
- verify all the information
- Click the Create button, then continue with Step 8 to setup outgoing mail settings.
- Apple's Mail client has now been configured to receive email via the POP protocol.
