Configure Apple's Mail Client To send mail in Mac OS X 10.6.

 

The following instruction were created using Apple's Mail client version 4.5.

 


  1. Open Apple Mail, then from the  Mail menu Preferences....
  2. Select Account ICON on the Toolbar, the Account Information screen will open
    • From the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) menu

    •  From the menu, select Edit SMTP Server list…

  3. The Outgoing Mail Server screen will open
    • In the Account Information tab, set the Outgoing Server Name to:   mail.queensu.ca
    • Then select Advanced tab.

  4. In the Account Advanced tab
    • Select Use custom port and enter  465
    • Check the box Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    • From the Authentication menu select Password
    • Enter your netid.  
    • Click the OK button

Apple's Mail client has now been configured to use the Outgoing mail (SMTP) protocol and is ready for you to send messages.
