Email Tutorials - GetID - Activate and Use Your Queen's NetID
Introduction
- Every Student at Queen's is entitled to an E-mail / Internet account.
Students are required to obtain and use the University's e-mail system to communicate with the University and to receive information from the University.
- GetID is the process students go through to establish their e-mail / internet account.
- NetID is the common sign-on you will use for services and applications operated by ITServices on the Queen's network, including e-mail.
- Once your NetID is activated it will remain active until you are no longer registered at Queen's. At that point your account will be marked as inactive. In February an e-mail will be sent to all inactive accounts notifying the owner that the account will be removed in March. If you receive an e-mail indicating your NetID will be removed and you feel you have been incorrectly identified as inactive contact the ITServices General Office immediately. For more information please see the Account Termination Policy.
To Activate Your NetID Follow These Steps
Check Your Queen's E-Mail
- Your Queen's email address will look like this: 9abc5@queensu.ca
- Once your NetID is active Undergraduate Students can send and receive e-mail from Queen's WebMail.
- Once your NetID is active Graduate Students can send and receive email from Queen's Outlook Web App.
- There are several methods you can use to send/receive email. You can choose to use one of them or a mix. For example, you can use MS Outlook to check your email at home, and Queen's Webmail or Queen's Outlook Web App when you are on campus.
Get Queen's Distribution Software
- If you have a computer, and you plan to download any of the site licensed software (like Symantec Endpoint Protection/Norton AntiVirus), you should get the ITServices Desktop Assistant, Ida. Ida is free and runs on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 operaating systems. Macintosh users are invited to use the ITServices Macintosh Software page to download OS 9 and OS X applications.
