Running TSM Backup manually

Note: TSM on Windows does not have a scheduler, so you must run TSM manually. Should this ever change, this document will be updated accordingly.

  1. Launch the TSM application
    • From the Actions menu, select Backup Domain

  2. TSM will run.
    • The more data being backed up, the longer it will take - especially with Local or Personal Folder Outlook files.
    • Outlook and any other data must be closed when backing up.
    • The initial backup will take the longest.
    • Subsequent backups will run more quickly as they will be Incremental backups.
    • Backing up from home or off campus is not recommended as upload speeds are often much slower when not on campus networks.

  3. Verify that your data has been backed up
    • From the main menu, select Restore

  4. The files that have been backed up will be displayed
    • Verify the drives, users, and files that you expect to be backed up.
    • Once you are sure that your files are backed up, you can exit TSM
    • Important Note: TSM may back up the folder structure as seen here. If you have created an Exclude identical to the example above, the folders displayed will all be empty. This is something TSM just needs to do. You must actually browse your folders and files to be sure that TSM has backed them up correctly.
