Mapping a Network Drive to a File Share

  1. Right mouse click the Windows Start  icon
    • Select File Explorer

  2. The This PC screen will open
    • From the top menu select the Computer tab
    • Select Map network drive

  3. The Map Network Drive screen will open
    • From the Drive: drop down menu select a letter to associate with the mapped drive.  Do not choose one that is already used by the system (A, C, D, etc.) or one that has already been used to map another drive. It is best practice to choose one from the lower end of the alphabet.
    • In the Folder: field enter the path to your file share. This will be provided to you by your IT Admin Rep or you can contact the IT Support Centre.
    • If you want the Mapped Network Drive to be connected each time you log onto your computer, check the box beside Reconnect at sign-in
    • If you do not use your AD\Netid and password to log into your computer, check the box beside Connect using different credentials.
    • Click the Finish button

  4. If you checked Connect using different credentials, then the Windows Security screen will open
    • in the User name field enter AD\NetID 
    • In the Password field enter your NetID password
    • If you want to be logged in automatically check the box beside Remember my credentials
    • Click the OK button

  5. The file share will open
    • You can create folders, save files directly to your file share, open folders and files, and drag and drop folders and files to your file share

Disconnecting from a Mapped Network Drive

  1. When you have finished working with your file share don't forget to disconnect it
    • Right mouse click on This PC
    • From the flyout menu select Disconnect network drive...

  2. The Disconnect Network Drives screen will open
    • Select the drive to disconnect
    • Click the OK button
