Vista Dial-up Tutorial

 

  1. Click the Start button 
    • Click on Connect To
  2. Connect To on Start Menu
  3. The Connect to a network screen will open 
    • Click on Set up a connection or network
  4. Connect to a Network Screen
  5. The Choose a connection option screen will open 
    • Click on Set up a dial-up connection to select it
    • Click the Next button
  6. Choose a Connection Option Screen
  7. The Set up a dial-up connection screen will open 
    • enter the dial-up phone number  (note:  if you dial long distance, long distance rates will apply to your connection as well as the fee stated below.)
      • Qlink 613-533-0382 -- $0./hr 56 kbps (V.90), for students, free locally.
      • Telnet1 613-533-0360 -- $0./hr 56 kbps (V.90), for staff & faculty, free locally.
      • 56K Toll 613-533-0646 -- $0.60/hr  56 kbps (V.90), for everyone.
      • North America 1-877-307-2999 -- $10.00/hour * variable (V.90), for everyone

        Prices subject to change without notice.
    • enter your NetID
    • enter your Password
    • If you choose, check the box to Remember this password
    • Give your connection a name
    • Click the Connect button
  8. Setup a Dial-up Connection
  9. The Connecting to "your connection name" screen will open 
    • as the connection is made this screen will change
  10. Connecting to Dial-up
  11. The Your are connected to the Internet screen will open 
    • Your are ready to browse the internet 
    • Click the Close button
  12. Connected to Internet
  13. The Set Network Location screen will open (to complete the installation process) 
    • Click Home or Work (whichever this location is)

  15. The Successfully set network settings screen will open
    • Click the Close button

  17. When you are finished you need to disconnect your connection.  If you forget to disconnect and you are on the toll line you will be wasting your toll account funds. 
    • Click the Start button
    • Click the Connect to link
    • The Connect to network screen will open, showing you connected
    • Click the Disconnect button
  18. Disconnect
  19. The Successfully disconnected from "your connection name" will be displayed 
    • Click the Close button
  20. Successfully Disconnected
  21. To connect your modem next time
    • Click the Start button
    • Select Connect To
    • The Connect to a network screen will open showing your connection name.  Click your connection to select it.
    • Click the Connect button
  22. Connect to a Network screen, now with the connection
