Wireless Campus Network

 

Networks & Telecom provides centrally managed wireless network connectivity to the Internet using technology by Aruba Networks. 

 

Queen's provides three wireless networks, two secure and one not. The system continues to grow in both coverage and capacity. An updated list is available under  Wireless Locations .

ITServices strongly recommends that you use the secure wireless network when accessing wireless Internet service on campus.The " queensu " unsecure network is provided for computers that are unable to use WPA2 security. For more information on the  queensu  unsecure wireless network visit the  Unsecure wireless tutorial . Any 802.11a/b/g/ WiFi certified network card should work with the Queen’s Wireless. Check with your manufacturer for details or call the ITS helpline (613-533-6666).

 

As always, a wired connection is preferred when the location from which you access the network is fixed. You can benefit from the greater speed and reliability of the wired connection. Wireless is really about convenience for mobility.

Getting Started

Eligibility:

• All members of the Queen's community with a valid NetID.

• A computer that is appropriately equipped for wireless Ethernet that supports WPA2, and is in the vicinity of one of the Queen’s access points.

• All faculty, staff, and students visiting from other educational institutes that are participating in the eduroam network can use eduroam to connect to the wireless network at Queen's. 

 

Secure Wireless Setup:

• The "QueensuSecure_WPA2" secure network is WPA2 encrypted. 
• To connect to the new Secure Wireless Network QueensuSecure_WPA2, you will need to set up your computer’s network software.

Additional Information

• The Queen's Wireless Network provides for dual radio access points – 802.11b and 802.11g on the first and 802.11a on the second.
• Department orders to install or change are placed by the ITAdmin Rep.

Cost:

• There is no charge for using the Wireless LAN system. Costs for expansion of Coverage or Capacity are available to the ITAdmin Rep on request.
