The ITS-sponsored Educational Technology Award now accepting nominations!

ITS is pleased to announced that this year, the department will be sponsoring the Educational Technology Award! This exciting new award is designed to recognize and encourage the innovative use of technology to enhance teaching and learning at Queen's.

"We're really excited to be offering this award to our faculty and staff," says CIO Bo Wandschneider. "We're very proud of the work being done at Queen's to keep us at the leading edge of education, and we hope this award encourages new innovation and helps people share what they are doing today."

The Educational Technology Award is one of six of the Principal's Teaching and Learning Awards. These annual awards are intended to celebrate teaching excellence and increase trans-disciplinary exposure to innovators in teaching and diverse ways in which the student learning experience is enhanced by educators and educational supports at Queen's.

The ITS-sponsored award honours faculty and/or staff (individuals or teams) from any faculty, school or department that has demonstrated exemplary or innovative and measurable applications of technology that drives change and contributes to furthering learning and teaching. The use of technology can either be a development of hardware/software or the use of existing technology in order to:

  • Motivate students to learn and facilitate in-depth learning
  • Promote peer-based learning and facilitate collaboration
  • Bring new resources into the classroom
  • Enhance experiential learning
  • Enhance blended or distance learning
  • Enhance methods for evaluating student learning
  • Bring research into the undergraduate classroom
  • Demonstrate the realization that teachers and students are partners in the learning environment
  • Enhance accessibility
  • Make more effective use of physical spaces
  • Generate quantifiable efficiencies and effectiveness in existing practices

Up to two awards may be conferred in any given year with no more than one award for faculty and one award for staff. Winners will be chosen by December 15, 2015 and will receive $2,000 with encouragement to present their innovation or as a contribution toward further initiative(s).
