Once the standard in learning management systems, WebCT has been provisioned to Queen's through ITServices since 1999, with more than 2500 courses developed. However, with the sale of WebCT to Blackboard in 2005, and an end-of-life date of 2011 for WebCT 4.1, Queen’s will be discontinuing WebCT in August 2011.
In its place is Moodle, an open-source learning management system that was rolled out by ITServices as a full-fledged service in Fall 2010. With over 1,000 courses created and more than 300,000 logins by 14,000 unique users, Moodle has enjoyed an extensive uptake since its launch.
