The WebPublish Process

Review the WebPublish service definition

  • Review the WebPublish Service Definition to ensure eligibility for the service and that WebPublish content management system (CMS) will meet your requirements. If you are uncertain as to whether your group qualifies for a WebPublish account, please contact the IT Support Centre.

Learn how to use WebPublish

  • Register and attend an Introductory WebPublish Workshop and/or review the online WebPublish documentation.
    • Workshops are offered by ITS and open to any individuals with a valid Queen's NetID and email account who will be involved in building and maintaining the site.
    • Please visit WebPublish training section for more information on workshops and registration.
  • If you would like to arrange training or a demonstration for your group, please email WebPublish Administrator at web.publish@queensu.ca.

Request a WebPublish publication account

Select a site banner and theme

  • As part of the WebPublish service offering, site owners can choose a theme and banner for the website. Visit the Design section to view the current collection of generic banners and available themes.
    • To arrange for a generic banner to be added to your publication (at no cost) and/or the theme changed, please contact the IT Support Centre.
    • To request the creation of a custom site banner or graphics for your site (cost-recovery fee for service), please submit a Marketing Services Design Requisition Form.

Plan your content

  • Building a website involves more than just publishing content to the Internet. A useful website focuses its content on what the audience wants. Contact Robin Moon at University Marketing if you would like to schedule a consultation or have any questions or inquiries related to the web development process.

Publication graphics, web consulting and custom development

  • Web consulting services (with a focus on user-centric design and accessibility) are available through University Relations Marketing department, as well as custom development of WebPublish beyond the "generic publication" offerings, including custom banners (cost-recovery fee for service).
  • Contact Robin Moon at University Marketing if you would like to schedule a consultation or have any questions or inquiries related to the web development process (strategy and scope), 'look and feel' or custom development.

Develop your site

Ensure your Website meets accessibility and quality standards

  • The Accessibility Hub and ITS have partnered to provide you with an easy-to-use tool to identify ways to improve the accessibility of your website and ensure that it is compliant with the provincial accessibility requirements outlined in Section 14 of the Accessibility for Ontarians with a Disability Act (AODA). Web accessibility (WCAG 2.0 A, AA, AAA) and quality assurance (broken links and misspellings) reports are available for your Website as part of Queen’s University Siteimprove subscription.
  • Additional information and links to resources are available on the Web Accessibility service page.

Request to make your site live

Note: ITS does not make sites live on Fridays

Get to know your audience through Google Analytics

  • If you do not already have a Google Analytics property ID for your website and/or require assistance adding your Google analytics property ID to your site, please contact the WebPublish team thorough the IT Support Centre.

Stay Connected with the WebPublish Service team

  • The main administrator for every WebPublish account is automatically added to -- and notified of system changes and updates through -- the WebPublish list-serve (WEBPUBLISH-2-L@lists.queensu.ca). Other WebPublish users can be added to the list-serve by sending a request to web.publish@queensu.ca.
  • WebPublish users are encouraged to provide input on desired functionality, features, and enhancements for the WebPublish CMS and service offering. Refinements to the system will be made on an ongoing basis to ensure the integrity of the system. The WebPublish Service Team will prioritize, develop and add new functionality, features, and enhancements to the system as resources allow and according to scheduled release dates once they have been proven to work in the WebPublish environment and to be in compliance with ITS policies and procedures.

Help & Support

  • Support requests can been submitted to the WebPublish team using the Help Form.
