Guidelines

When developing your site, remember the following guidelines and standards.

  • Adhere to Queen's Visual Identity and Graphics Standards Policy and writing guidelines and styles
  • Ensure your Website meets accessibility and quality standards
    • The Accessibility Hub and ITS have partnered to provide you with an easy-to-use tool to identify ways to improve the accessibility of your website and ensure that it is compliant with the provincial accessibility requirements outlined in Section 14 of the Accessibility for Ontarians with a Disability Act (AODA). Web accessibility (WCAG 2.0 A, AA, AAA) and quality assurance (broken links and misspellings) reports are available for your Website as part of Queen’s University Siteimprove subscription.
    • Additional information and links to resources are available on the Web Accessibility service page.

Site banner and theme

  • As part of the WebPublish service offering, site owners can choose a theme and banner for the website.  View the current options for your website header and banner, as well as available themes.

    • To arrange for a generic banner to be added to your publication (at no cost) and/or the theme changed, please submit a Help Form.

    • To request the creation of a custom site banner or graphics for your site (cost-recovery fee for service), please submit a Marketing Services Design Requisition Form.

Publication graphics, web consulting and custom development

  • Web consulting services (with a focus on user-centric design and accessibility) are available through University Relations Marketing department, as well as custom development of WebPublish beyond the "generic publication" offerings, including custom banners (cost-recovery fee for service). Contact University Marketing if you would like to schedule a consultation or have any questions or inquiries related to the web development process (strategy and scope), 'look and feel' or custom development.
