Q. What are the requirements to login via eduroam?

Software Requirements:

  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10
  • Mac OS X 10.7 - 10.11
  • Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
  • Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion)

Hardware Requirements:

  • Wireless adapter that supports WPA2 with 802.11a/b/g authentication
Q. I cannot login into the service with my NetID. What am I doing wrong?

Your NetID may not be activated. Most users will have already completed this step at some point. Visit  https://netid.queensu.ca/self-service  and login using your NetID and password. This will ensure your account is properly activated. It may take up to an hour for the account to complete its activation. So if it does not at first connect, please be patient.

Also you must use your NetID email address (netid@ queensu.ca), not your NetID alone or your email alias.

If you still have issues logging in please call 613-533-6666 or fill out the web form.

Q. How do I log in to the eduroam network?

Open your wireless connection manager and find the "eduroam" network.

Step by step instructions are also available in the ITS Eduroam Tutorials.

Q. Do you support Linux?

Not officially. Although you will likely have no issues getting it working through by selecting either EAP-PEAP/MSCHAPv2 or EAP-TTLS authentication.

Q. Which institutions are in the eduroam network?

The most up to date list of institutions are available at https://www.eduroam.org/where/

Q. Do I require extra software on my Windows PC to connect to eduroam?

No. Windows will automatically negotiate with the eduroam service in order to get you connected to the network.

Q. I am at a participating school and am having issues connecting. Who should I call?

You should always contact your home institution first when issues arise.

If you affiliated with Queen's you can contact the Queen's University IT Support Centre at 613-533-6666 for immediate support.

Q. What authentication protocols are available on eduroam when connecting with a Queen's NetID?
  • Network/SSID: eduroam
  • Network Authentication Method: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Data Encryption Method: AES(if WPA2)
  • EAP Type: TTLS or PEAP
  • Authentication Protocol: PAP (with TTLS) or MSCHAPv2 with PEAP
  • Outer Identity:  NetID@queensu.ca (this is your Queen's email address)
Q. I am traveling to a participating institution shortly. Should I get my system ready ahead of time?

Definitely. It is best to work out any kinks that you may encounter before leaving, and the service should work the exact same while you are on Queen's campus.
