Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students who wish to encrypt their Windows based phone are asked to contact the IT Support Centre. Windows based phones do not have user accessible settings and requires a phone policy to be enabled by ITS. Encryption will also force you to create an unlocking PIN on your device.
Encrypting a Windows phone will not encrypt a SD card in the phone. Microsoft restricts the type of data that can be stored to your SD card to prevent Microsoft Office files, email, text messages and contacts from being saved on the SD card. More information concerning Microsoft's policy concerning SD cards can be found here http://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us/OEM/docs/Phone_Bring-Up/SD_card_content
To request your device to receive the encryption policy, please contact the IT Support Centre by calling 613-533-6666 during business hours, or by filling out the online help form, indicating that you wish to have an encryption policy pushed to your Windows phone.
After you receive confirmation from ITS that your phone has been sent the encryption policy, you can verify that encryption has been successful.
Open Settings => phone storage
The phone will report that the space being used is encrypted.
Note: This policy requires your phone to be configured to access your Queen's based email. Removal of this policy will require a request to revoke the policy and a phone reset.
