Entire Hard Drive Encryption on Windows 7 Using BitLocker

Important Note: Before beginning any encrypting, make sure all of your data is backed up!

What is BitLocker Drive Encryption?

Queen’s has implemented a Data Security guideline which requires mobile devices like laptops that contain Queen’s University data to be encrypted.  This is to protect the data if the laptop is lost or stolen.  BitLocker Drive Encryption is a feature in Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise that allows the user to encrypt the entire hard drive which prevents unauthorized access to the data on the hard drive.

System requirements:

- (Software) Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise.
- (Hardware) (TPM) Trusted Platform Module or a Dedicated USB Flash Drive.
