Antivirus Software

Your computer or device should be running a reputable antivirus program that regularly updates and installs the latest virus definitions. Make sure that your virus definitions are always current and perform regular scans of your system.

Note:  Retirees and alumni are not eligible to obtain Queen's licensed antivirus software.

Faculty and Staff

Queen's faculty and, staff are licensed to use Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection.  Licensed users can log in to MyQueensU and download the software from the link found under Software Centre.

The following links will take you to installation tutorials for each supported operating system. SCEP has been replaced by Windows Defender in Windows 10 and is built into the operating system.  SCEP is available for:

Graduate Students, Undergraduate Students, Alumni and Retirees 

Queen's University does not have licensed antivirus software for graduate students, undergraduate students, alumni or Retirees use. 

  • ITS recommends Microsoft Security Essentials for unlicensed Windows 7 users. 
  • Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 comes pre-installed with Windows Defender and does not require you to install Security Essentials. 
  • Mac OS X users are encouraged to source an antivirus product of their choice.
