Install SCEP on a Macintosh

This tutorial gives step-by-step instructions for installing SCEP on a Macintosh computer. If you have already installed SCEP, see the Overview of SCEP for Macintosh.

Please note: Depending upon the configuration of your operating system and chosen web browser, you may notice some differences with the steps below. These instructions are meant to be used as a general guide, and the process should be similar for most situations.

Before you begin the installation process:

  • Please close all open programs on your computer.
  • It is strongly recommended that any currently installed antivirus software be removed to prevent potential problems.
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) and Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) were previously licensed and distributed by Queen's. They should be removed using the uninstaller available at the Software Centre in MyQueen'sU.
  1. To download SCEP, go to MyQueen'sU and sign in using your NetID and password
    • Open the Software Centre
    • Click SCEP for Mac
    • The installation file will be downloaded or launched from the browser.

  2. The System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection screen will open 
    • Click the Install button

  3. A message will display: This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed.
    • Click the Continue button.

  4. The Welcome to ... screen will open.  
    • Note the warning that any other security applications should be removed
    • Click Continue

  5. The Important Information screen will open
    • Note the System requirements
    • Click Continue

  6. The Software License Agreement screen will open 
    • Read the agreement
    • Click the Continue button

    • Click the Agree button

  8. The Privacy Statement screen will be displayed
    • Click the Continue button

  9. The Installation Mode screen will open
    • Typical installation mode includes configuration options that are appropriate for most users. These settings provide maximum security combined with excellent system performance. Typical installation is the default option and is recommended if you do not have particular requirements for specific settings.
    • Select Typical
    • Click the Continue button

  10. The Special Applications screen will open
    • Configure the detection of potentially unwanted applications. Potentially unwanted applications are not necessarily malicious, but can often negatively affect the behaviour of your operating system. These applications are often bundled with other programs and may be difficult to notice during the installation process. Although these applications usually display a notification during installation, they can easily be installed without your consent. 
    • Choose the option that is best for you.
    • Note: If this feature is enabled, it could potentially stop some applications from running properly.
    • Click the Continue button.

  11. The Standard Install on ... screen will continue
    • Click the Install button

  12. The Username and Password screen will open
    • Enter the Admin account for your Mac
    • Enter the Admin password for your Mac
    • Click the Install Software button

  13. The Installing System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection screen will open
    • The progress bar will indicate the installation's progress 
    • Once the installation is complete, click the Continue button

  14. The Installation was successful screen will open
    • Click the Close button

  15. After installing System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection, you should perform a computer scan for malicious items.
    • From the main program window, click Computer scan and
    • then click Smart scan

Uninstalling SCEP

If you wish to uninstall System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection from your computer, do the following:

  1. Launch Finder, open the Applications folder on your hard drive,
    • Open the Applications folder on your hard drive
    • Locate System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection icon
    • Press ctrl and click on the icon (or right click on a two-button mouse) 
    • Select the Show Package Contents option.

  2. Open the Resources folder 
    • Double-click on the Uninstaller icon.
