SCEP Client Overview for Macintosh


This document gives an overview of the menus used by SCEP for Macintosh. For help installing SCEP, see the tutorial Installing SCEP on Macintosh.



User interface    


To view or change the SCEP configuration, locate the SCEP icon on your toolbar and click to open. Depending on your settings, you will see either the Standard menu (left) or the Advanced menu (right). Click the Open System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection. Note: this line will toggle between Open and Close.

The main program window of System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection is divided into two main sections. The primary window on the right displays information that corresponds to the option selected from the main menu on the left. The following is a description of options within the main menu: 


  • Protection Status – Provides information about the protection status of System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection. If Advanced mode is activated, the Statistics submenu will display.
    • Statistics
  • Computer Scan – This option allows you to configure and launch the On-demand computer scan.
  • Update – Displays information about updates to the virus signature database.
  • Setup – Select this option to adjust your computer’s security level. If Advanced mode is activated, the Antivirus and antispyware submenu will display.
    • Antivirus and antispyware
  • Tools – Provides access to Log files, Quarantine and Scheduler. This option only displays in Advanced mode.

    • Quarantine
    • Scheduler
  • Help – Provides program information and access to help files. 


Main Menu Options


  1. Protection status
    • Shows what type of protection your computer has
    • Number of blocked attacks
    • The version of the virus signature that is installed on your computer

  3. Statistics is a sub-menu of the Protect status
    • Gives a visual representation of number of infected objects, number of cleaned object, number of clean objects
  4. Computer scan menu
    • From this screen, you can run the Smart scan which will scan your hard drive
    • Run a Custom scan that you created
    • To create a custom scan, click Scan setup and follow the prompts

  6. Update menu
    • Allows you to update the virus signature currently being used
    • Indicates when the last successful update took place
    • Indicates the version of the virus signature database currently installed

  8. Setup menu
    • Indicates when Real-time file system protection is enabled (preferred setting)
    • Configure the proxy server
    • Import and export settings
    • Revert all settings to defaults
    • Enter application preferences
  9. The Antivirus and Antispyware protection sub menu
    • If this menu is not displayed, click the + Activate Advanced mode button, located at the bottom left corner
    • Enable/Disable toggle for Real-time file system protection. Enabled is the preferred setting.

  11. Tools menu
    • Gives a summary of the three sub-menus Log files, Quarantine, and Scheduler
  12. Log files sub menu 
    • Shows the log files that are available
  13. Quarantine sub-menu
    • Shows a listing of the files that have been blocked by SCEP
  14. Scheduler sub-menu
    • Each user can set and modify scheduled tasks

  16. Help Menu
    • If you need more detailed help on how to configure and use SCEP, click the Open help button.
    • "About System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection" indicates the version of SCEP being used.
