FileZilla FTP Client

 

  1. Start FileZilla and Log in to the post server 
    • In the Host: field enter sftp://post.queensu.ca
    • In the Username: field enter your NetID
    • In the Password: field enter your NetID password
    • The port will automatically be determined by entering the sftp:// as part of the host name
    • Click the Quickconnect button
  2. The Message log will record the actions that have occurred
    • actions you have taken will be recorded
    • all status messages from the server will be recorded
  3. The Remote site is the server you have logged into.  It is divided into 2 sections: 
    • The upper section shows the folders
    • The lower section shows the files (and any subfolders) of the selected folder
    • Double click on the folder you wish to select.  The files will be displayed in the lower area.  Note:  you can also right click the folder and select open from the flyout men
    • The first item in the lower section is a folder named ".."  Double click this folder to move up one level in the folder listing
    • To select a file (or folder) to be transferred right mouse click the file. 
    • From the flyout menu select  Upload to immediately upload the file, or you can choose Queue to add the file to the Queue.
    • Note: your file will be uploaded to the current folder on the local site.
  4. The Local site is your Computer.  It is divided into 2 sections 
    • The Upper section show the folder on your computer
    • The Lower section shows the files (and any subfolders) within the selected folder
    • Double click on the folder you wish to select.  The files will be displayed in the lower section.  Note you can also right click the folder and select open from the flyout menu.  
    • To select a file (or folder) to be transferred right mouse click the file. 
    • From the flyout menu select  Upload to immediately upload the file, or you can choose Queue to add the file to the Queue.
    • Note: your file will be uploaded to the current folder on the remote site.
  5. The Queue of files to be uploaded/downloaded
    • When you have selected all the files you wish to upload or download right mouse click anywhere within the Queue.
    • From the flyout menu select process Queue.
    • Your files will be uploaded or downloaded.
    • Watch the message log (2 above) to see the status of the transfer.

 

When transferring a file you need to choose the location you want to transfer the file to. To upload a file chose the location on the remote site. To download a file, choose the location on the local site.

Notes:

 

  1. When transferring a file you need to choose the location you want to transfer the file to. To upload a file chose the location on the remote site. To download a file, choose the location on the local site.
  2. You can upload or download a single file by double-clicking on it. It will be added to the transfer queue and the transfer starts automatically. It will be transferred to the folder that you selected.
  3. To transfer folders and/or multiple files, select them and right-click the selection. Then you can click on Upload or Download from  the flyout menu.
  4. You can also drag the files from one side and drop them on the other side.
  5. To add files to the queue so that they will be transferred later, select them and click Add to Queue from the popup menu.
  6. You may also drag the files directly into the queue. Click on the Queue Botton - the letter Q with a red arrow underneathbutton on the toolbar to start the transfer.
