Sharing

There are multiple ways to share content from a media library or playlist:

Delegation

In addition to the above options, you can delegate your entire account to someone else. This option allows the other person to also control your account as though it were their own, so make sure this is the right option for you! In order to add a delegate, submit a Help Form requesting to delegate your Streaming Service account and be sure to include the NetID(s) of anyone you are delegating your library to.

Allow others to publish or transfer to your Shared library

When you grant sharing permissions to other users, they can share videos with your library. This is referred to as “adding a share”. When you do this, a checkbox for your library will appear in their Publishing menu, allowing them to publish to your Shared Library.

  1. To enable sharing, open the Administration menu from the Navigation Pane and select Library and then Sharing.

  2. Select the +Add button.

  3. If you have access to multiple organizations, you can select an Organization from the Select an Organization drop-down menu to switch between them.

  4. Select one or more libraries, which will have permission to publish to your shared library (CTRL + Click will select multiple libraries at once).

  5. Once the libraries are selected, click Add to My Shares. You will then be returned to the main Sharing window.

  6. Once the user(s) have been added, you can assign transfer permission by selecting the corresponding check box.
  • If Transfer is left disabled: the user will be unable to transfer content to your shared library, but can direct publish to a Shared playlist/web destination.
  • If Transfer is enabled: the user will be able to upload and transfer a video to your library.

NOTE: Videos that are transferred to your library count toward your quota.

To edit sharing with users in other libraries

1. Open the Administration menu from the Navigation Pane and select Library and then Sharing.

2. Locate the user library from the Source Media Library list and adjust the transfer permission as needed.

To remove sharing with users in other libraries

  1. Open the Administration menu from the Navigation Pane and select Library and then Sharing.

  2. Select Delete button associated with the user library.

  3. When prompted for confirmation, you will be presented with additional options to: a) un-publish previously published content and/or b) remove previously shared content.

  4. Select Yes or No to confirm/cancel the deletion.

Allow others to share using your Streaming Service Dropbox

Using the Dropbox feature, you can create a Dropbox for users to provide you with content without having to log into the Streaming Service.

  1. To create a Dropbox, open the Administration menu from the Navigation Pane and select Library and then Dropbox.

  2. Select the +Add button to create a Dropbox.

  3. Next enter a Name, URL, Description for the Dropbox.

  4. To control who can see your Dropbox, you can select the Public and/or Enabled checkboxes.

Allow others to publish to your Playlist using Direct Publish

Direct Publishing allows someone else to publish their videos to your Playlist. For example, if multiple instructors teach one course, and everyone would like to display their respective videos in a single Playlist in Moodle, one instructor would create a Playlist, then grant the others the ability to display their videos in that Playlist.

  1. If you have not already done so, the first step is to Create a Playlist.

  2. Next, enable sharing for each person who will publish to your Playlist.

  3. To enable direct publishing, open the Administration menu from the Navigation Pane and select Library and then Direct Publishing.

  4. Select the +Add button.

  5. If you have access to multiple organizations, you can select an Organization from the Select an Organization drop-down menu to switch between them.

  6. Select one or more libraries, which will have permission to publish to your shared library (CTRL + Click will select multiple libraries at once).

  7. Once the libraries are selected, click Add to My Shares. You will then be returned to the main Sharing window.

Share Content with Other User Libraries and Playlists

NOTE: If you would like to transfer your content to someone else's streaming library, that person must first complete the Allow Others to Share Content With You tutorial (above).

Transfer Content to Another Library

The Transfer button is a bit misleading. You cannot transfer a video that already exists in your library; you must upload the video in a manner similar to a normal video upload. "Transferring" content is actually uploading a video to another person's media library and does not upload the video to your library.

  1. From your Media Library, select the Transfer button.

  2. From the dropdown list choose the library to which you are transferring content.

  3. Select Continue button.

  4. Upload your video as usual, or follow the Uploading and Managing Content tutorial if you need a refresher.

  5. The video you transferred will now appear in the Media Library of the other person.

Uploading Content to a Dropbox

  1. Go to the Dropbox URL provided to you by another Streaming Service user (e.g. https://stream.queensu.ca/dropbox/<name-of-dropbox>).

  2. If the Dropbox has been enabled, you will be prompted to complete a Dropbox submission form.  If the Dropbox is disabled, you will need to contact the user to have it enabled.

  3. Enter your First Name, Last Name, Email, Content Title, Date Produced, Description, and any keywords.

  4. Select the Add file button to add the file or drag the file(s) into the area labeled Drag file here.

  5. Select the Start Upload button.

  6. You will receive a confirmation once the file(s) have successfully uploaded and the audio/video file will appear in the Dropbox owner's Media Library.

Share Content using Social Media Tools

Using the Social Sharing Tools, you can share to social platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and email. Selecting any of the icons will launch a pop-up window with sharing options for that platform.

The Social Sharing Tools feature can be accessed from:

  1. The Media Library list by selecting the Share button directly beneath the item; or

  2. The Publish form of the Add/Edit Wizard by expanding Social Sharing Tools menu.

Share a video or a playlist using a Permalink or Custom Link

You can use a permalink or create a custom link to easily link to videos or playlists

The Permalink feature can be accessed from:

  1. The Media Library list by selecting the Permalink button directly beneath the item;

  2. Playlists by selecting the Permalink button directly beneath the playlist.
