Configuring Your Android Device for Office 365

 

If you accessed your Queen's email on your device before your email account was moved to Office 365, you must delete the old email account. If you have not accessed your Queen's email account on your device, skip to the Add a New Account section.

 

Note: there are different versions of the Android operating system.  What is displayed on your screen may not be exactly the same as what is shown below.  If you require help, please contact the IT Support Centre by calling 613-533-6666.

 


 

Delete your Queen's email account from your device

 

  1. Tap on the App Drawer to open it,
    • select Settings
  2. The Settings screen will open
    • Select Corporate
  3. The Corporate account settings screen will open
    • Tap on Account Settings
  4. The Sync screen will open
    • Select and hold your Queen's Account. 
    • You will be given the options to Sync now or Remove account
    • Select Remove account
  5. You will receive the warning that all message, contacts, and other data will be removed.  Don't worry - it is all waiting for you in Office 365.
    • Select Remove account

Add a Queen's Email Account to your device

 

  1. Tap on the App Drawer to open it,
    • Tap  Settings
  2. The Settings menu will open 
    • Tap Accounts & Sync (if you don't have this option, go to the next step)
    • Tap +Add Account
  3. The Add an account screen will open
    • Tap Email account (the envelope with the yellow letter). Note: some devices have an Exchange Active sync option; if yours does, use that.
  4. The Account setup screen will open
    • Put in your full email address in the email address field using NetID@queensu.ca format only
    • Enter your password
    • Click Manual Setup 
  5. The Account setup Domain/Username screen will display the Exchange options
    • In the Domain/User Name field, delete whatever is in there (including the slash)
    • Enter your full email address using NetID@queensu.ca format only
    • In the Server field, remove whatever is in there and enter outlook.office365.com
    • Select Use secure connection (SSL)
    • Check Accept all SSL certificates
    • Click Next
  6. The Remote security administration screen may open
    • Click OK to finish setting up your account
  7. The Account options screen will open 
    • Select your preferred sync option
    • Click Next
  8. The Account setup - Your account is set up... screen will open
    • You have the option to name your account
    • Click the Done button
  9. Open the Mail application on your Android device. You will be prompted to allow the security settings
    • Click OK
  10. Your Email is now ready to use

Android 5 - Lollipop OS with Gmail App

 

Newer Android devices with OS 5 may default to Googles new app for email.  Individual device manufacturers may implement email differently and the following instructions are a best effort at providing instructions that will assist you in configuring your Android 5 device to access Office 365 email.

 

  1. Open Settings from the launcher and scroll down to the Accounts section.  Select the option to Add Account
  2. You will be prompted to specify the type of account you wish to add, select Exchange or Corporate
  3. Enter you netid@queensu.ca address and password when prompted for account.
  4. The wizard will attempt to determine the correct connection settings to use automatically, if it is not able to, you will be prompted to enter the details manually.
  5. Username will be your netid@queensu.ca
  6. Server outlook.office365.com
  7. Port 443
  8. Select SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)
  9. Now tap Next
  10. You will receive notification that by setting up an Exchange email account, you are accepting that the administrator of the Exchange server has the ability to remotely wipe your device should the company deem it necessary to do so:  This also gives you the ability to wipe your device from within Office 365 if you lose your device.
  11. Tap OK to continue configuring the account.  On the next screen you can specify which mailbox folders you wish to synchronize, and how often.
  12. Tap Next.  You will be prompted to activate a device administrator to enable the Exchange server to be able to manage the phone remotely.
  13. Tap Activate, you will be prompted to enter a name to identify the email account, this can be anything meaningful to you.
