Design and Layout

To request a web page for your department complete the Web Publish Request Form.

While completing the form choose the background and banner that you would like for your web site. The background for your web site consist of the colour for the main menu and footer, and the appearance for the region surrounding each web page.  Additionally there is a selection of banners from which you can choose a banner where the title of your web site will be displayed.

Click on the links below to view the different backgrounds or banners.

When designing your site, remember these general guidelines:

General Design

  • Don't over-complicate pages. Keep them clear and concise.
  • Avoid flashing or animated images.
  • Avoid using sounds on your pages (it may interfere with screen readers).
  • Use descriptive links (e.g., "The Queen's Encyclopedia", instead of "Click Here" or "")
  • When adding an image to WebPublish, always add a description for the image. This allows a screen reader to describe the image to a visually impaired person.
  • Avoid using comments like: "See below", or "as described above". These are confusing to people using screen readers where position has no meaning.
