Training

To work or study in the lab there are several mandatory training courses.

Course on Research Ethics (CORE)

There are eight modules in the Course on Research Ethics (CORE) focusing on the guidance in the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (2nd Edition) (TCPS 2 - 2014) that is applicable to all research involving human participants regardless of discipline or methodology. The purpose of CORE is to provide an introduction to and spell out important principles and examples from the TCPS 2. CORE is used Canada-wide and internationally. The Modules are interactive and interesting with the total on-line tutorial requiring approximately 4 hours to complete.

WHMIS Training or Refresher Course

WHMIS, or Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, is a comprehensive, legislated program that ensures your "Right to Know" about the hazardous materials with which you are working.

The WHMIS program is the result of joint development by federal and provincial governments, industry, and labour. Implementing the program was a model of tripartite cooperation among these groups.

WHMIS is incorporated into the Occupational Health and Safety Act and is law in the Province of Ontario. This legislation very broadly states that if you work with, or in proximity to, hazardous materials your employer must take several steps to ensure that the information you need to work safely with those hazardous materials is available to you and understood.

At the main page, click on Training in the menu bar, then select WHMIS.

Biosafety Training

The Queens University Biohazard Committee requires, as a condition of obtaining a biohazard permit, that the Principal Investigator ensure that all personnel have both general and laboratory-specific training in the handling of biohazardous material.
