Sebastián, his executive producer Costa, and his crew are in Cochabamba to shoot a film about Columbus and colonization. Costa has chosen Bolivia because local extras are cheap. Things go more or less smoothly until a conflict erupts over the privatization of the water supply. The trouble is that one of the local actors is a leading activist in the protest movement … (IMDB)

The dishonorably discharged Afghanistan veteran Thomas returns to his home village. Ali, a local Turkish-German businessman and owner of a snack-bar chain, hires him as a driver. That's when Thomas meets Laura, his Turkish boss's young and attractive wife. A classic love triangle unfolds in desolate northeast Germany, where thick forests suddenly end on cliffs overlooking the Baltic Sea. 1961-1962, the Algerian War is under way, Lakhdar, an immigrant construction worker, lives in the Nanterre shantytown 3km from Paris. He can no longer bear living alone, far from his family in Southern Algeria. Once he succeeds in bringing them to France, he starts looking for a decent apartment. Berlin tattooist and single mother of three, Pelin's problems are growing into a mountain: her son lands in hospital, social services threaten to take away her children and she loses her job. Burnt out, she is offered a recovery programme for single mothers by the seaside. But she must continue earning a living and her boyfriend is bothering her…    

Nov 5: Angela Schanelec. Marseille (2004) 91 min. Germany (France)

The young photographer Sophie swaps apartments with a student from Marseille. Sophie dives into the city—alone--making photographs. In a garage, she asks a young mechanic, Pierre, if he can get her a car. Two days later they meet again and spend the evening captivated by the lightness of not knowing each other. Sophie is happy. When she returns to Berlin, she is immediately re-immersed in former life. Her love for Ivan, the husband of her best friend Hanna, remains undeclared.
