The Department of Languages, Literatures and Culturesat Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching a course in GRMN 101/3.0 – Beginner’s German I. This is an on campus lecture course with an expected enrolment of ~35 students. Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or be ABD) in German and teaching experience at the University level and who have ideally taught one or more courses with a similar content in the past. This is a fall term appointment for the period September 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013,with classes in session from September 9, 2013 to November 29, 2013.

If a graduate student is teaching a course in a different discipline than they are registered, then they would be eligible for appointment as aTerm Adjunct

GRMN 101/3.0
This course is for students with no previous knowledge of German. The course concentrates on the basic language skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) and introduces elements of German culture as recorded in its customs, history and literature.

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching two courses in GRMN 101/3.0 – Beginner’s German I, one course in GRMN 102/3.0 Beginner's German II and one course teaching GRMN 311/3.0 German Language and Culture through 18th- and 19th- Century Literature. These are on-campus lecture courses with an expected enrolment of ~35 students. Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or be ABD) in German and teaching experience at the University level and who have ideally taught one or more courses with a similar content in the past. This is a fall/winter term appointment for the period September 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013, and January 1, 2014 to April 30, 2014, with classes in session from September 9 to November 29, and January 6 to March 28.

Course Descriptions:
GRMN 101/3.0
This course is for students with no previous knowledge of German. The course concentrates on the basic language skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) and introduces elements of German culture as recorded in its customs, history and literature.
GRMN 102/3.0
A continuation of GRMN 102/3.0 aimed at expanding basic language skills (Listening, reading, writing and speaking). Students will review and deepen their knowledge of grammatical structures through exposure to a variety of German-language media and culture.
GRMN 311/3.0
An introduction to reading, discussing and writing about German literary texts in German. Major periods, authors, and texts of the 20gh century will be examined in their cultural and historical contexts. Students will be exposed to different genres: excerpts from novels and dramas as well as short stories, poems and film adaptations.
