Adjunct Lecturer in Tuba and Euphonium (Brass and Percussion)
A native of Shawinigan, Quebec, Sylvain has been playing professionally for over 30 years. He is Principal Tuba with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra and a founding member of Brass Werks.
Former Band Master of the Royal Military College of Canada, Sylvain is now Music Director of the Communications and Electronics “Vimy” Band.
Before settling in Kingston, Sylvain played for the Canadian Forces first in the Army with the Princess Patricia Canadian Infantry Band and the 62nd Field Artillery Band, in the Air Force with The Central Band and in the Navy with the Stadacona Band, HMCS Tecumseh and the National Band of the Naval Reserve.
Sylvain also plays tenor and bass trombone, electric and double-bass in all styles of music. He played trombone with the Latin band Pico de Gallo, bass with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, has toured the US with the Mel Perkins and the Percolators (Chicago Blues Band) and even played at the famous Hofbrauhaus in Munich. Sylvain also performed with the Victoria Symphony, the Calgary Philharmonic, The Beaver Fever Tuba Quartet, Symphony Nova-Scotia Brass Quintet, The RCMP 125th Anniversary Band, The Penguins on Broadway, the Soul Survivors, Kelly Jay, Dave Turner, Country Legend Wilf Carter, and performed in a Jazz Quintet for George Bush Sr. in Washington, DC. His career took him to Europe, the former USSR, Australia, Korea and China.
