As part of a recruitment festival for local high school instrumentalists, I take the bass players to sit in with the top jazz ensemble. One of the visiting bassists sight-read a very difficult part with the band. Returning to her seat, she leaned over and asked, "Where are all the girls?" ...I had to answer for her.
