Author Biographies

Elaine R. Barkin,
composer and writer about music, is University of California-Los
Angeles Music
Department Professor Emerita. She has been an active participant in
collaborative music making and Balinese gamelan. Barkin taught a
Semester at Sea
and journeyed around the world during Fall 1996. She and Lydia
Hamessley
co-edited Audible Traces: Gender, Identity and Music.

Elizabeth
Mackinlay is a Lecturer in the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait
Islander Studies Unit at the University of Queensland where she teaches
Indigeneous Studies, Anthropology and Enthnomusicology. She is
undertaking
research on Indigenous Australian women's performance, performance
pedagogy,
embodied learning, and music teach and music learning environments.
