This program is highly specialized. In order for a student to complete it on time, s/he must focus on music education requirements in second and third year. This means some music courses are taken in a different year of study than would be the case for a student taking only the B.Mus. degree. It is possible to complete all remaining degree requirements in Fourth year.
B.Mus./B.Ed. must take these music core courses in Year 2.
|221||AB||Applied Study II|| |
|227||AB||Ear Training & Sight Singing II||Tormann|
|228||AB||Keyboard Harmony II||Davidson|

It is wise to defer at least one of your core musicology courses in Year 3 because you must have room in Year 2 for MUSC 273/274 and 3.0 - 6.0 in P/J or I/S preparation courses.
|204||A||Baroque & Classical Music|
You may defer to Third year; offered every year
|205||B||Medieval & Renaissance Music|
You may defer to Third or Fourth year; offered every year
You must take both of these courses, if you did not take them already, because they are prerequisites to Year 3 Music Education:
|273*||A||Introduction to Music Education||Brook|
|274*||B||Music Education: Partnership Placement|
Take one from the 180s series or one from the 280s series:

|188*||A or B||Guitar Techniques & Methods I||Hanlon|
Not all 180 series courses are offered in a single year; check the current SOLUS course listings for offerings in your year.
The 280s are new. They provide you with more experience on a secondary instrument; however, the focus is on organizing teaching and materials in a high school setting. If your major instrument is clarinet, you may seek permission to take MUSC 281* without taking MUSC 181*; if your major is trumpet, you may seek permission to take MUSC 283* without MUSC 183*.
Not all 280 series courses are offered in a single year; check the current SOLUS course listings for offerings in your year.
