An introduction to the study of the singing voice through class instruction. Fundamental techniques that can be used in a teaching situation will be emphasized. Includes the study of the changing voice (male and female), breathing techniques, vowel formations, warm-ups, method books and teaching techniques. Enrolment is limited.
Students will receive 24 hours of direct instruction plus 12 hours in a common lab period with students in MUSC 185* and 188* for a total of 36 class hours in one term. Students will have the opportunity to play/sing in a tutorial/lab/choir once per week. During this experience they will learn song leading, elemental conducting, e.g., breathing with the entry, down-beat, cut-off, how to solve problems in a class of beginning musicians, as well as using warm-up and techniques in the class sessions.
