Seniors Courses

After recognizing a specific need for science education within the Kingston community, NOP approached the Kingston Seniors Association (KSA) about the creation of a neuroscience-themed course to compliment their well-developed arts programs. The result was our first public science course titled “Mind Matters: How Your Brain Works” in the fall of 2008. This was an introductory neuroscience course taught as a series of one-hour weekly lectures at the Kingston Seniors Centre, located off campus at 56 Francis St. Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows from within the Centre for Neuroscience Studies developed a series of lectures designed to teach the basic principles of brain function and dysfunction. Each lecture focused on a different topic but was designed to integrate with and build upon the previous lectures. The feedback from the seniors was overwhelmingly positive. As such, the course has been repeated at the KSA as well at the Kingsdale Chateau Retirement Residence.

This program is currently manages by Laura Smithson. Should you wish to become involved, please contact Laura.
