The 'Travel Club' is NOP's longest running program. Launched in December 2004, the 'Travel Club' meets on the first Tuesday
of every month at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital (SMOL). St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital is a long-term rehabilitation and geriatrics hospital. During a 'Travel Club' evening, SMOL residents 'travel' to different countries using audio-visual presentations, music, and crafts native to that country. To date we have visited many countries of the world including Germany, China, Australia and Iran. Residents of St. Mary's engage in crafts and write postcards for themselves, their healthcare providers and families as keepsakes from their evenings. On any given night, we attract about 15 residents plus family and staff. It was our hope to attract the same group of patients on a regular basis so that our volunteers had the opportunity to get to know the patients on an individual basis. To date, many residents continually attend our 'Travel Clubs' throughout the duration of their hospital stay.
The ‘Travel Club’ is currently looking for volunteers. Please contact Noor Al Dahhan at email@example.com for more information.
