Athletics and Recreation encourages health and wellness investment

Athletics and Recreation offers many fitness options including spin classes (above). The Invest in You Showcase on November 14 will give staff and faculty the chance to learn more about health and wellness resources on campus and in the community.

With busy work schedules and personal commitments, many staff and faculty ignore their health and wellness. Athletics and Recreation (A&R) wants to change that.

“The core principal behind this initiative is to encourage Queen’s staff and faculty to pause and take some time for themselves,” says Marg Jones, Manager of Recreation, A&R. “We are expanding beyond physical health to design a health and wellness showcase on November 14 that has something for everyone.”

The university recently received the gold award for workplace wellness from Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health, due in large part to the many programs and activities offered by A&R. The “Invest in You” Showcase is another endeavour by A&R aimed at increasing the health and wellness of staff and faculty at Queen’s.

Showcase attendees will have the chance to learn about many of the health and wellness offerings at Queen’s and in Kingston. Campus partners as well as community groups and organizations will offer interactive and informative displays, complete with demos, giveaways and door prizes.

Visit the Queen’s A&R website for full details on the event or contact Kate Kittner, Coordinator, Marketing and Communications, A&R, at ext. 77369.
