Kimberly Woodhouse, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and professor in the department of Chemical Engineering, was recently appointed to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

“It is an honour and privilege to be able to serve the research community in this way,” says Dr. Woodhouse. “NSERC supports 30,000 post-secondary students and post-doctoral fellows and 12,000 professors in their advanced studies and I look forward to working with the other council members to support science and engineering research initiatives across Canada.”

Dr. Woodhouse is also a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and of Biomaterials Science and Engineering. She has received the Engineers Canada's Medal for Distinction in Engineering Education and the Premier's Research Excellence Award.

In addition to NSERC, Dr. Woodhouse sits on several boards including the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Canadian Engineering Memorial Fund and the National Council of Deans of Engineering and Applied Science. She is on the editorial board for the Journal of Biomedical Engineering: Polymer Edition.

“Dr. Woodhouse will be a welcome addition to the council,” says Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry. “She joins NSERC with a wealth of experience from the private sector and a background in teaching and professional accreditation—all of which will be of great value to NSERC and its work, supporting university research in science and engineering.”
