Extra peer support for students

The Peer Support Centre (PSC) is opening temporary satellite sites during the final week of classes to help students deal with the increasing pressures of end-of-semester deadlines and approaching exams.

“The end of classes and exams can be very stressful for students,” says Kathleen Coutts, marketing and outreach coordinator for the Peer Support Centre. “After receiving feedback on how best to support students during this time, we decided to bring the PSC to them.”

Students can visit the satellite site in Room 216 of the Integrated Learning Centre in Beamish-Munro Hall on April 2 and 3 from 6 pm-9 pm. This site will be staffed by engineering students who have been trained in peer counselling by the PSC. On West Campus, peer counsellors will be available on April 5 and 6 from 7 pm-11 pm in the Phase 1 Reflection Room (C134) of Jean Royce Hall.

The PSC, an AMS service run by the Social Issues Commission for use by all Queen’s students, will also continue to be open every day from 3 pm-1 am throughout the exam period. All students can access the PSC by visiting Room 34 of the John Deutsch University Centre, calling (613) 533-6000 ext. 75111 or by visiting the website.
