First Nations Conference comes to Queen's
Recent amendments to the Ontario Mining Act and what this means to First Nations communities is the focus of a national conference at Queen’s.
The 2009 First Nations Conference: Mineral Resources and Aboriginal Lands brings together First Nations leaders, industry representatives, and provincial and federal officials to explore how First Nations can benefit from the new mining act.
“The new mining act is a good deal for First Nations. They’re looking for strong economic bases and mining can definitely be one of them,” says Vic Pakalnis, Kinross Professor in Mining and Sustainability at Queen’s University and one of the conference facilitators.
